SOCCSKSARGEN Regional Athletic Association (SRAA) Meet 2015 to be held in Gensan, February 16- 20
Around 6,000 athletes, coaches, and trainers from nine (9) divisions of DepEd in Region 12 will gather in General Santos City for the SOCCSKSARGEN Regional Athletic Association (SRAA) Meet 2015 which is scheduled from February 16- 21.
The delegations will be coming from the cities of Koronadal, Cotabato, Tacurong, Kidapawan and General Santos, and from the provinces of Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani and South Cotabato.
“Playing venues for different sporting events are now ready for SRAA Meet 2015,” said one of the officials of DepEd- Gensan City Division.
These includes Lagao Gym & Pacquiao Gymnasium in Tambler for basketball games; MSU-Fatima Campus for baseball & softball games; Antonio Acharon Sports and Recreation Center in Calumpang for football; Oval Plaza Covered Court for futsal; General Santos City High School & Antonio Acharon Sports and Recreation Center both in Calumpang for Sepak Takraw. For volleyball games the venues will be at Ramona Acharon Central ES, Brgy. Calumpang Covered Court, Brgy. Labangal Covered Court and GSCHS Taiwan Hall.
For individual events - swimming, athletics and archery will be held at Antonio Acharon Sports and Recreation Center; boxing at the Oval Plaza Covered Court, Taekwondo at SM City General Santos, Gymnastics at Veranza; Arnis at Robinsons Place; and Dadiangas South Central Elementary School for chess. Other playing venues includes GSC Tennis Court, Bigshot and Nadine Badminton courts, and Gannes Billiard Center.
In last years SRAA Meet, General Santos City was declared over-all champion while delegations from South Cotabato, Koronadal City, Cotabato Province and Sultan Kudarat placed 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th, respectively.

South Cotabateños honored at the 7th Ani ng Dangal Awards
South Cotabateños Jay-R Melody and Macz Alminaza of the Xtreme Dancers were among those honored during the 7th Ani ng Dangal awards of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) held at the National Museum of the Philippines in Manila last Thursday, February 12, 2015.
Ani ng Dangal or “Harvest of Honors” is a state recognition given by the NCCA to artists that have recently brought honors and pride to the country.
In March 2014, Xtreme Dancers won the top prize of the 6th Gatsby Dance Competition held in Tokyo, Japan and five months later, in July of the same year, they were proclaimed as Senior Performer Grand Champion of the World in the prestigious World Championship of the Performing Arts (WCOPA) in California, USA.

February 27, 2015 declared a Holiday in General Santos City
The City of General Santos will be celebrating its 76th foundation anniversary and 26th Kalilangan Festival on February 27, Friday.
The day has been declared a special non-working holiday by Malacañan Palace through Proclamation No. 956, series of 2015 signed by Executive Secretary Paquito Ochoa Jr. on February 2, 2015.

HABY Volunteers from Gensan among 12th TAYO Awards finalists
On Tuesday, February 24, 2015 different youth organizations from all over the country were recognized for their contributions in nation building during the awarding ceremonies of the 12th Ten Accomplished Youth Organizations (TAYO) Awards led by President Benigno Aquino III in Malacañang.
Among the twenty (20) finalists was the Hearts and Brains Youth (HABY) Volunteers based in General Santos City. Composed of passionate volunteers, HABY Volunteers are involved in helping the marginalized sectors particularly in the far-flung areas in Sarangani and Gensan. Their projects includes conduct of medical missions, giving of school supplies and providing livelihood, among others.
For TAYO 12, HABY Volunteers presented their Bahay Tuluyan (dormitories) Project that aims to provide refuge to school children in remote parts in Sarangani.
"Our organization believes that no Indigenous People (IP) children should be left behind on education." said John Oliver Tablazon during his presentation before TAYO 12 judges.

Meanwhile, HABY Volunteers along with the other finalists that includes the CITE Youth Volunteer Group, CMLI Junior Alumni Association, Kwaderno, New Breed Special Force, Order of Asclepius, Rebirth Outdoor Trekkers and Adventurers Inc., University of the Philippines Business Administration Student Council, University of the Philippines Circuit and Youth for a Livable Cebu also received a trophy and a P20,000 cash grant.
The TAYO 12 search is spearheaded by the TAYO Awards Foundation, the National Youth Commission, the Office of Senator Bam Aquino and the Coca Cola Foundation Philippines, Inc.
Since its establishment in 2002, the TAYO Awards Foundation has recognized and supported the outstanding contributions of youth organizations to national development.
To date, more than a thousand youth organizations have joined the search and have become part of the foundation's growing youth network.

"Paradise" DOT-12's tourism campaign video released
To attract more tourists to visit the region, the Department of Tourism Region 12 (DOT-12) has released today March 1, 2015 a TV commercial entitled "Paradise" on its Facebook Page.
The video runs for a total of 1 minute and 45 seconds highlighting some of the famous landmarks and attractions in SOX (new tourism tagline for SOCCSKSARGEN Region). These includes the attractions in South Cotabato - Falls #1 and Falls #2 of the famous Seven Falls in Lake Sebu, the Seven Falls Zipline which is considered the highest in Southeast Asia and Lake Holon in Tboli town.

The majestic Grand Mosque in Cotabato City is also highlighted in the campaign video. The mosque which is donated by the Sultan of Brunei is the largest and grandest in the country.
Asik-asik Falls in Alamada, Cotabato Province, the boiling Lake Agco in Kidapawan City, and the Baras Bird Sanctuary in Tacurong City were also among the attractions in SOX featured in the TVC.

PNPA Lakandula Class 2015 valedictorian is from GenSan
Cadet First Class Dennis Yuson Jr. from General Santos City is class valedictorian of Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA) "Lakandula" Class of 2015.
The son of a police officer in Sultan Kudarat topped this year's PNPA graduating class composed of 15 females and 232 male police cadets.
Before he entered the PNPA, Yuson studied at Notre Dame of Dadiangas University where he earned a bachelors degree in education major in mathematics. In 2010, he was one of the winners of the General Santos City Youth Achievers Award.
In an interview on GMA News TV's "News To Go" on Thursday, Yuzon said that he believes that their class, the "Lakandula" class which name stands for “Lahing Kayumanggi na handang ialay sa bayan ang Dugo at Lakas” will be the new breed of police officers who can regain the trust and the confidence of the public, by serving with integrity and loyalty.
“Malaking tulong ang aming pagsasanay sa loob lalo na ang core values na itinuro sa amin like justice, integrity and service. Kung gaano man kahirap ang hamon sa labas ng akademiya, pipilitin namin maka-serve sa bayan ng buong katapatan,” Yuson added.

Tboli shines at 41, Seslong Festival a success!
The recently concluded 17th Seslong Festival in Tboli, South Cotabato was a remarkable success with thousands of residents and visitors enjoying various activities of the celebration which ended Monday, March 16.
Among the activities of the celebration which started last March 5 were the Horse Fight which is considered part of the Tboli culture, the Search for Mutya ng Tboli participated by a total of 11 candidates from all over the municipality, the 4x4 Off Road Challenge and the internationally- recognized 3rd DST Shooting Competition participated by professional shooters from all over the country and abroad.
The Pilgrimage to Lake Holon participated by around 300 individuals not only from the region but as well as from Luzon and Visayas was also among the highlights of this year's Seslong Festival. The event also marked the reopening of Lake Holon to visitors who wants to experience nature, adventure, and the unique culture of the Tboli tribe.
The people of Tboli, guests and tourists were also treated with activities such as the cheerleading, the drum and lyre competition, Moto X Free Style and the Seslong Festival 2015 Street Dancing Competition participated by seven (7) contingents from different elementary schools.
"We want Seslong Festival to be known not only in the region, not only in the country but also all over the world.."said Mayor Dibu S. Tuan during the culmination program on Monday. Tuan also encouraged everyone to help promote Tboli as a peaceful and beautiful town.
"Everyone is welcome in Tboli. Take a vacation here, visit Lake Holon and experience our unique culture." he added.

PBB Season 6 Gensan Auditions set on April 17 & 18
Attention all aspiring Pinoy Big Brother (PBB) housemates in General Santos City, South Cotabato and neighboring places.
On April 17-18, 2015, Pinoy Big Brother, the hit reality-show on ABS-CBN will conduct its Gensan Auditions for PBB Season 6 Regular and Teen Edition to be held at KCC Mall.
The audition for the PBB Regular will be on Friday, April 17, 2015 for aspiring housemates whose age ranges from 18 to 35 years old while the second day of the PBB Gensan Audition will be for the PBB Teens on April 18, featuring aspiring housemates ages 13 to 17 years old.
During the first-ever PBB Season 6 Auditions held last week at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City, thousands of aspiring housemates tried their luck hoping to be included in the elite list of official PBB Season 6 housemates.

There's no stopping progress in the town of Tboli, South Cotabato. The once-sleepy town is now a thriving tourist hotspot.
Just recently, in time with the town's celebration of its founding anniversary and the annual Seslong Festival, the latest attraction in the municipality was unveiled- the Tboli Knoon Monument.
Designed by renowned Mindanaoan sculpture Kublai Ponce Millan, the Tboli Knoon Monument stands out in the Municipal Plaza. It is expected to draw more visitors and tourists as "side dish" to their trips in Lake Holon and other tourism sites.

The main masterpiece of the Tboli Knoon Monument resembles a musical instrument called "sludoy" or a bamboo zither with gigantic sculpted human figures depicting the rich culture and traditions of the Tboli tribe. Take a look at the following pictures.

Lake Holon, the Crown Jewel of the South re-opens
Closed to tourists for nearly eight (8) months, Lake Holon, one of SOCCSKSARGEN's premier destinations, has re-opened.
On March 13, 2015 more than 200 individuals joined the Pilgrimage to Lake Holon which is one of the highlights of this year's Seslong Festival of the Municipality of Tboli. Participants were composed of tourism stakeholders, mountaineers and enthusiasts coming from different parts of the region. There were also guests who came all the way from Manila, Visayas and other places in Mindanao- all eager to see the beauty of Lake Holon and experience nature, adventure and culture in one.
Lake Holon was closed in June last year for rehabilitation, improvements in the area and to prepare the community for possible influx of tourists.
Dubbed as the "Crown Jewel of the South", Lake Holon is the crater lake of Mt. Melibingoy, an active volcano. The lake has been named as one of the cleanest inland body of water in the country.

On March 16, 2015 during the culmination program of the 17th Seslong Festival, the Department of Tourism - Region 12 through Reg'l Director Nelly Nita N. Dillera has finally turned-over to Tboli-LGU the master development plan for Hidak Falls framed by GeiserMaclang, an internationally awarded marketing communications company.
And as announced, the development of Hidak Falls will begin next month - April 2015.
"We are developing Hidak Falls as a high-end, exclusive resort where membership is required before a person could access the amenities," said Mayor Dibu S. Tuan in an interview.

LOOK: Penitents carry the cross, flagellate on Good Friday in GenSan
