(UPDATED!) SOCOTECO-2 BROWNOUT SCHEDULE | March 15, 2013 Power Interruptions | Feeder Assignments

Power Interruptions continues  for SOCOTECO-II service areas this week as generation deficiency worsens. For March 15, 2013 (Friday) some areas  will experience up to 6-hours of brownout. This is according to a power advisory published at the SOCOTECO-2 official website.

Full power advisory from SOCOTECO-2 for March 15, 2013 (Friday) below:

The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) declared a bigger generation deficiency in Mindanao grid at 200 megawatts (MW) for Friday, March 15, 2013, further plunging SOCOTECO II’s supply allocation from the National Power Corporation (NPC).

SOCOTECO II has to manage a very meager supply of 41 MW from NPC and 30 MW from Therma Marine Inc. (TMI), as against the franchise area’s peak demand at 112 MW, or the total shortage of 41 MW. This will result to increase of brownout hours from four hours to at least six hours on Friday, March 15, 2013. NPC or NGCP has no pronouncement if situation will improve during the week-end. Feeders are now divided into two groups only. Following schedule will be implemented for March 15, 2013:

For inquiries on this matter, please call 553-5448 to 50 or text 09177205365.

Seventy-six (76) students from the Computer Studies Department and College of Engineering of Notre Dame of Marbel University participated in a Google Mapping Seminar-Workshop entitled "Let's Map it up NDMU!" last Saturday March 9, 2013 at the university's SMC Hall.

Organized by the Computer Studies Department and supported by NDMU administration, the Google mapping seminar and workshop aims to teach students the basic knowledge in online mapping using Google Map Maker, a service developed by Google which allows users to add, edit and update places on Google Maps. The event also aims at producing new citizen cartographers from South Cotabato.

It was also attended by members of the South Cotabato Google Map Makers, an informal group of online mappers with their president Arnel Robles(a former IT Instructor at NDMU) as one of the resource speaker. He effectively taught the participants and lead the workshop on how to add places, do reviews and edits among others.

Another resource speaker was Dr. Remo Aguilar, orthopedic surgeon and currently Chief of Clinics at St. Louis Hospital in Tacurong City  taught the students how to map places despite the lack of high resolution imagery. And taking their experience in mapping Tacurong City as an example, Doc Remo also taught the participants how a GPS-enabled mobile phone can be of help in mapping a locality.

Reynard Navarro, owner of this blog and SouthCotabato.Org gave a brief overview of Google Mapping in the Philippines, taught the participants how to create a Google account and introduced Google Map Maker to the participants.

One of our favorites when in it comes to dining in General Santos City, Red Trellis Seafood Garden has finally opened its Microtel Gensan branch earlier March 16, 2013.
Among it's first costumers were big names in the business community and government officials like Gov. Migs Dominguez  and Vice-Governor Steve Chiongbian of Sarangani and the visiting Senator Bongbong Marcos to name a few.

Red Trellis Microtel Gensanbranch is far more different compared to its main branch located in Lagao, the place is  just near the city's business district, fully air conditioned with a more beautiful and elegant-looking interiors. Diners can also choose to dine at the al fresco.

Red Trellis Microtel Gensan branch offers same great foods and service they're best known for, their best-tasting crabs and seafood specialties are not to be missed. The ambiance is also very much different to it's main branch, relaxing and generally good that South Cotabato News highly recommend to everyone to try it.

The Province of South Cotabato is subdivided into 10 municipalities and 1 component city.

The biggest municipality is T'boli with a land area of 89, 583 hectares roughly three (3) times bigger than the City of Koronadal, our provincial capital which has a total land area of 27, 700 hectares.

The smallest municipality is Sto.Niño with a land area of only 8,620 hectares. It would take more than three (3) Sto.Niño to fill the size of the City of Koronadal.
