Casiño celebrates birthday with disabled kids, pushes for enactment of law for children & youth with disabilities

Bayan Muna Rep. Teddy Casiño today celebrated his 44thbirthday by joining children with disabilities (CWDs) and their parents in pushing for the enactment of House Bill 3665 or the Youth with Disabilities Empowerment Act, which has been approved by the House and is just awaiting Senate action.

At the Stimulation and Therapeutic Activity Center- Quezon City (STAC-QC), at St. Joseph St. Brgy. New Era, Casiño hosted a simple children's party in solidarity with CWDs and to rally support for HB 3665, which is expected to benefit some one million children and young adults with disabilities through the establishment of stimulation, therapeutic and activity centers (STACs) all over the country.
Enact law for children & youth with disabilities

The STACs system is already being implemented by select local government units that have partnered with CWD organizations. Almost 140 STAC centers have been established in the past years, helping poor families put their children through therapy sessions which normally cost around P300 to P500 in private clinics.

“I hope that through this bill, similar centers will be established in all cities and municipalities to empower children and young adults with disabilities as well as the communities they live in,” said the solon.

At the gathering Casiño gave away some teddy bears and goodies to the children but said that more than toys "we want the immediate enactment of the bill so that they can have better lives."

“Sana po ipasa na din sa Senado ang panukalang ito para mas marami pa tayong mga kapatid na may kapansanan na matulungan lalo pa ang mga bata,” Casiño ended.

Are you a Dim Sum lover? Then, Chow Topps DimSum - our newest discovery in Koronadal City is for you to try.

We were invited by its owners for a taste test of their food earlier this month. Though I have never had dim sum before and do not really know what a real dim sum tastes, South Cotabato News enjoyed the food at Chow Topps, they served before us their rice meals and their 4 types of siomai, all were tasty and each one being better than the next. The place is located inside Ace Centerpoint, a little small but has enough seats for you and your friends. Their staffs  were attentive and the owner was also very accommodating. Check out few of  our photos below.

From the food, the price to the service, Chow Topps DimSum is generally good!
Chow Topps serves fried and steamed siomai that comes in four different types - pork siomai, beef siomai, shark fin and the Japanese-style siomai. They also have rice toppings and siopao.
Japanese-style Siomai on a fried rice. Our favorite.
Chow Topps DimSum is located  at the Gensan Drive Wing of Ace Centerpoint. Visit them now!

SPOTTED: Prepaid WiFi offered at the YBLTerminal in Koronadal City

The Yellow Bus Line, Inc. management is offering internet connection for a fee through the use an internet kiosk by MarbelTel in its bus terminal in Gensan Drive, City of Koronadal.
Internet kiosk at YBL Terminal in Koronadal City
While other establishment like malls, restaurant and even some of YBL's Premier and Executive Class buses offers WiFi connection free of charge, the prepaid WiFi service inside the YBL Terminal is for a fee of P20.00 for every one hour of use. We find it a little costly and unnecessary because usage of the service is limited only within the bus terminal and given the fact that telecommunication companies also offers mobile internet for as low as P10 for 30 minutes and you can use it anywhere you go as long as there's a signal.

To avail of the prepaid Wifi at Yellow Bus Line Terminal, a costumer must have a ready P20.00 bill, insert it into the payment slot found at the right side of the kiosk and then press the "Print" button. The kiosk will then print out a service ticket that contains the username and the password that can be use in connecting to the internet through your smart phones, tablets or laptops. On your device, find and connect to the "wifi_works@marbeltel" networks then open the internet browser. You will be redirected to the service log-in page then enter the username and password from the kiosk print-out. After that costumer can now enjoy internet connection while in the YBL Bus Terminal.

What do you think of this prepaid wifi service inside YBL Bus Terminal in Koronadal City?

Last Friday November 30, 2012, Mountain Lake Eco Resort in Lake Sebu introduced to the public its newest offering - lake cruise around Lake Sebu on board its floating restaurant called Boi Henwu

A first in Lake Sebu, Boi Henwu floating restaurant can accommodate 30-40 persons who want to leisurely cruise while eating around Lake Sebu.

South Cotabato News was one of the first batch of guests to try this latest offering by Mountain Lake Eco Resort together with participants from the successfully concluded  Eco-Guides' Training conducted by AVLDA and LGSP-LED. We were treated with tilapia-based dishes served in a buffet style while a musician entertained the guests playing some unwinding acoustics and country music. There is also a tour guide on board the floating restaurant who shared to us some story and myths about Lake Sebu, the culture and different traditions of the T'boli's and the features of the lake. The lake cruise lasted for about an hour.

For those who wants to cruise around the lake while eating, Boi Henwu floating restaurant at Mountain Lake Eco Resort is available at P200.00 person.

Kees Cafe is open 24 hours, aside from coffee, oriental and Filipino dishes, they also have cakes which according to the manager are actually flown all the way from Manila.

If you thought that Tampakan was only all about its rich gold & copper deposits, or the controversial mining project, think again -  this first class municipality in South Cotabato can also be a good venue for some awesome river trekking.

Last Sunday, South Cotabato News together with a travel buddy and three knowledgeable guides who were also from Tampakan explored the hidden beauty of nature in Brgy. Pula-Bato, Tampakan, South Cotabato. The group took a habal-habal ride from Brgy. Poblacion, walked for about 15 minutes to reach Amwek Cave, trudged through the ankle-to-knee deep river, climbed huge boulders, had a long hike before finally enjoying the cold waters of Kawa-Kawa Falls. Enjoy the photos below.
You need to climb through these huge boulders, to be able to reach Kawa-Kawa Falls. The cold waters and the beauty of nature will simply keep you going.
River pools and more short waterfalls along the way - all inviting.
Caves. There were actually about five caves the group passed through before reaching Kawa-Kawa Falls, the most notable was the first called Amwek Cave, the rest are yet to be named.
Rocks after rocks. Get ready to climb and slide through these huge boulders scattered all throughout - exhilarating yet  fun!

Dip in at the cold waters of Kawa-Kawa Falls and be amazed.
South Cotabato News highly recommend river trekking to Kawa-Kawa Falls in Pula-Bato, Tampakan especially for adventure lovers.

How to get there:

The Municipality of Tampakan is located some 30 minutes away from Koronadal City, it can be reached through jeepneys or air-conditioned van. From Brgy. Poblacion, take a habal-habal ride to Brgy. Pula-Bato (Php 30.00/person), from there a hike for about 15-20 minutes will bring you to the river and Amwek Cave where the most exciting part of your river trek will start. Another more or less 1 hour of enjoyable and adventurous trekking passing through huge boulders will lead you to Kawa-Kawa Falls. For more information about River Trekking to Kawa-Kawa Falls and other possible adventure destinations in Tampakan, contact iDenCaBang Adventures @ 0928-9353-083.

Aside from the two-storey administration building which will house an executive lounge and different offices of the electric utility company, the new SOCOTECO-1 Central Office will also have a gymnasium just at the back of the administration building, a motorpool and a warehouse. There will be also a wide open yard at the back and a transformers yard, the wide parking area will be located just at the front of the main building  fronting the national highway.
We are looking forward for the completion of the new SOCOTECO-1 Central Office and the transfer  from its old and current main office in Brgy. Paraiso by the early months of 2013.

The town of Lake Sebu in South Cotabato continues to be a favorite destination for both locals and foreign tourists alike.

Aside from its famed tourism destinations like the Seven Falls, the zipline adventure, its three (3) lakes (namely Lake Seloton, Lake Lahit and Lake Sebu), and the rich culture of the T'boli tribe to name a few, Lake Sebu is also known for its affordable resorts. Another resort that has become one of our favorites wasMountain Log Resort in Purok Pag-asa.
Last November 26-30, Mountain Log Resort was the venue for the 5-day Eco Guides' Training organized by AVLDA and LGSP-LED wherein South Cotabato Newswas one of the privileged participants. It was actually our third visit at Mountain Log Resort and this time we took the opportunity to take pictures of the resort and the scenery, and of course we never forgot to inquire about their room rates. The following are what we've got.
Lotuses blooms early in the morning at Lake Sebu
